Happy Housewarming

Today was Tonio’s sister’s housewarming. She recently moved upstate with her family. Junior and I got up (after sleeping late and loving it), took our time getting dressed and headed out to meet up with Tonio. We drove to pick up his best friend and fellow blogger Cas and her daughter. We all settled in and headed upstate to view the new house. The drive is about an hour and fifteen minutes. My son is 9 and Cas’ daughter is 8, so they’re pretty close in age. Junior however is at this stage where he doesn’t want to be bothered with girls. They did make small talk on the ride up. Talking about Pokemon, Chris Brown and other things kids their age have in common. The adults listened to oldies and sang along. Arriving to our destination, we drove up to this fabulous house on the right and took in the scenery. It’s perfect as it’s the first house you turn into on this cul-de-sac that opens up to four other houses. It was very scenic. We were the first guests there. We got a tour of the two-story home in all its splendor. The rooms were huge and the layout was very comfortable and ‘homey’ (in a good way). Not having eaten, the food that was prepared hit the spot. There was: potato salad, macaroni salad, baked chicken, ribs, rice and peas, macaroni and cheese. For dessert: flan (homemade), donuts, cheesecake, etc. Enough to make your teeth hurt and your blood to turn to caramel! People started arriving soon after and the housewarming was getting underway.
The kids adjourned to the basement where they watched TV and played pool and air hockey. That coupled with unlimited sodas was a dream come true. The adults were upstairs eating and talking. After everyone had eaten, Tonio suggested a game of kickball to bring the two worlds together. The teams were formed: David (Tonio’s brother-on-law), his son, another kid and Cas’daughter. On the other team: Tonio, junior, Cas and myself. At first we were getting our butts kicked, but we bought it up in the end. We really won 10 to 9, but they swore we take a point off because the pitcher had the ball, even though I ran home, but the pitcher wasn’t back on the mound. For the sake of argument we gave it to them, soon after everyone wanted to call it quits. They didn’t want to face defeat-the punks! The day went off without a hitch. The kids got along, the adults were catching up, the weather held out. It was a great evening. As usual by the time we started to leave the kids were huffing and puffing. They didn’t want to leave their new forged friends. This was a good sign, that they got along. We agreed that they would all get to hang out again soon. The ride home, for junior and Cas’daughter, was different than coming. They were talking, giggling, playing Pokemon cards and sharing the GameBoy. It was good to see that they were getting along. The adults (yes myself included), put on a concert-a tribute to Chaka Khan. We each had a song and sang it loudly and off key, but we had a great time doing it. Cas is a wonderful person, and glad we had a chance to hang out and chill today. She’s a no joke, no nonsense person, but with a big heart and a lovable disposition. It’s easy to see why she and Tonio have remained friends all these years. Everyone had a great time.
